Tenby, Carmarthen and Gower Peninsula

Join us for a fabulous 5 day holiday to South Wales.

Highlights
  • Tenby and Saundersfoot
  • Mumbles and the Gower Peninsula
  • St Brides Bay and St David’s
  • Carmerthen

Sunday
A morning departure arriving at our hotel, The Ivy Bush in Carmerthen late afternoon. Time to check in and relax before dinner.

Monday
After a leisurely breakfast, we shall join the coach for the full day excursion of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. A drive to the picturesque St Brides Bay and Newgale Sands and then on to St. David’s, the famous tiny Cathedral city where there will be time at leisure. St David’s is the birthplace of the patron saint of Wales, David

Tuesday
We firstly travel to the small seaside resort of Saundersfoot with free time to explore before continuing to the popular seaside resort of Tenby with its old town walls, interesting little side streets and alleyways.  Tenby is an appealing resort, unspoilt by commercialism and it retains its natural seaside charm, especially along its narrow streets which lead down to the pretty harbour. The town's attractions include four fabulous beaches, Norman Castle ruins, shops, cafés galore, even a museum and art gallery. Just a 20 minute boat ride away lies Caldey Island with its monastery.

Wednesday (Optional Excursion) or free day in Carmarthen

We head south through Kidwelly and on to the picture postcard resort of Mumbles, delightfully located on Swansea Bay and a drive along the Gower Peninsula to the viewpoint at Rhossili Bay.
Gower was the first place in Britain to be named an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With cliffs and woodlands ringed by sparkling beaches, the Gower peninsula is so adored by walkers, birdwatchers, sunbathers and surfers, it’s been scooping awards ever since.
Rhossili  regularly makes lists of the world’s best beaches, for very good reason: its three-mile (4.8km) golden sands feature towering cliffs and Worm’s Head at one end, dunes at the other, and a genuine shipwreck in between. In summer, you can watch paragliders ridge-soaring the updrafts on Rhossili Downs.

Thursday   After breakfast, we bid farewell to our hosts at the Ivy Bush and make our way back to South Yorkshire, arriving home late afternoon.

Ivy Bush Hotel, Carmarthen
The Ivy Bush Royal commands a spectacular position at the gateway to West Wales. Welcomes business and leisure travellers to this beautiful part of the country in considerable style and comfort. The hotel has been fully refurbished and sympathetically modernised to blend its old world charm with modern facilities. There are 70 comfortably furnished bedrooms including 3 family rooms, 4 executive rooms and a two-room suite.

Carmarthen, pronounced Caerfyrddin in Welsh, is the county town of Carmarthenshire, located besides the River Tywi. It has been an important administrative centre since ancient Rome, while also being an important strategic location which has been attacked and conquered over the centuries. Carmarthen’s mixing of traditional, local independent shops together with major retail shops makes it a popular shopping destination together with its newly refurbished traditional market supplying the town with local produce, Carmarthen is also home to the county museum and many local art galleries. Visit Carmarthen Castle with its long and bloody history, walk one of the many town trails which showcase Carmarthen’s rich history or shop to your heart’s content in one of many new and refurbished shopping centres.
