Sandringham & Norfolk Broads

Royal Sandringham and the Norfolk Broads

Friday 20 August 2021 (3 Days)

Why not join us on this excellent 3 day break which includes Kings Lynn, Norwich, the Norfolk Broads with Steam Train and Boat trip,
Wells-next-the Sea and Royal Sandringham

Sandringham is the much-loved country retreat of her Majesty the Queen, and has been the private home of four generations of British monarchs since 1862 and is widely regarded as the the Queen’s favourite property, where she traditionally chooses to spend her time every Christmas.  Nestled amongst 60 acres of beautiful Norfolk countryside, Sandringham House is a majestic neo-Jacobean property with the Ballroom always being a fascinating room as it houses a different exhibition each year showing new collections from the private rooms of the house which have never been on display before.  In the grounds you will also find the parish church of St Mary Magdalene, where Princess Charlotte was christened and where the Royal Family attend mass at Christmas.  If time’s still on your side take a romantic stroll through the exquisite gardens and spot Queen Alexandra’s Summerhouse, meander along the stream or browse the many gift shops in the designated visitor centre.

Norfolk Broads
Norfolk is possibly most famous for the man-made Broads, a National Park with over 125 miles of navigable lock-free waterways set in beautiful countryside and studded with charming and picturesque towns and villages.
The Southern Comfort is a double-deck paddle boat purpose built for the Broads with a capacity of 100 passengers for public trips or private hire. Our boat is a luxury river cruiser which runs regular trips from the beautiful village of Horning, along the River Bure through the village and out to Ranworth Broad and back, passing lovely old thatched houses, windmills and Norfolk reed beds. Throughout the trip there is an excellent commentary and continual pointing out of all the water birds around at the time. There is the ever present bustle of river traffic with cruisers, yachts and the occasional wherry.
Experience a nostalgic trip by steam on Norfolk’s longest narrow gauge railway which runs between the historic market town of Aylsham and bustling town of Wroxham, at the heart of the Norfolk Broads. The 18 mile round trip runs through the pretty Bure Valley countryside following the meandering River Bure through meadowland and ancient pasture.

Kings Lynn
The Hanseatic town of King’s Lynn was one of England’s most important ports from as early as the 12th century and its maritime past is still very much in evidence today. Fine old merchants’ houses stretch down to the river between cobbled lanes and the elegant Custom House overlooks the harbour.  King’s Lynn has over 400 Listed Buildings with the finest medieval architecture anywhere in the country for a town of its size. The town’s Hanseatic history and trading links with Europe can be discovered on the self-guided Hanse Trail. On Purfleet Quay is the splendid 1683 Custom House, described by Pevsner as 'one of the most perfect buildings ever built'.

Norwich is a wonderful fusion of the modern and historic, one complementing the other. As well as being the most complete medieval city in the UK, it has a flourishing arts, music and cultural scene, superb independent as well as High Street shopping, lively restaurants, bars and nightlife and a heritage that is a delight to explore.

Wells-next-the-Sea is situated in the heart of the North Norfolk coast – a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with over 40 miles of glorious beaches, unspoiled landscapes and protected wildlife habitats. Once an important commercial seaport and manufacturing town, now a popular seaside destination, Wells is still a working fishing port where you can watch the boats unload their catch.
