Harry Potter World

Saturday 16 January 2016

Hogwarts in the Snow....

This festive season, you’re invited to discover how special effects experts make snow that never melts, how set dressers transform locations for Christmas scenes, and how flames are created without fire! We’re opening the doors on our most magical makeover yet and for the first time this year you can see the hand-carved Goblet of Fire lit with flames that change from blue to red.

Go behind the scenes of the Harry Potter film series, located at the Studios where it all began
Step on to authentic sets and relive the magic through the eyes of the filmmakers who brought the Harry Potter film series to life.

Platform 9 ¾ – Now open
This March, we’ll be unveiling a 20,000ft² expansion, including the original Hogwarts Express steam engine and a recreation of Platform 9 ¾. The new, permanent section will offer a glimpse into how some of the films’ most iconic scenes were created as well as give you the chance to climb aboard the train’s carriage and to pose with a luggage trolley as it disappears through the platform wall.
Officially opening on Thursday 19th March, the new, must-see section has been redesigned and will be built by many of the crew members who worked on the most successful film series of all time. Every inch of the platform’s glass roof, yellow brick walls and luggage racks, designed by Production Designer Stuart Craig, will be painstakingly reassembled by a team led by Construction Manager Paul Hayes and dressed by Set Decorator Rosie Goodwin. Special Effects Supervisor John Richardson will rig the locomotive with special effects steam.

You’ll be able to:

• Pose with a luggage trolley on Platform 9 ¾ as it disappears through the station’s yellow brick wall and walk along the Hogwarts Express’ adjoining carriage
• Explore the interior carriage set that was used during filming (complete with ‘windows’ that demonstrate the process used to create iconic train scenes from the films such as the escape of Harry’s first Chocolate Frog and the Dementor attack)
• See a selection of prop luggage and find out which character owned which items by turning an interactive dial (characters include Hermione Granger, Draco Malfoy, Luna Lovegood and more)
Browse a wide range of goodies inspired by the Harry Potter films and, specifically, the Hogwarts Express in a train-themed souvenir shop which will be open on the platform

The Studio Tour

Did You Know?
The film studio where the Harry Potter film series was filmed was originally an old aircraft factory and runway where planes such as Mosquitos and Halifax Bombers were manufactured.

The Harry Potter film series made Leavesden its home for more than ten years. As the books were still being released while the films were being made, the production crew saved many of the iconic sets, props and costumes that were created especially for the films - just in case they were ever needed later on in the series.
Once filming wrapped on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 in 2010, the production crew were left with a treasure trove of thousands of intricate and beautifully-made artefacts, many of which wouldn't have been saved on a typical production.
The team behind Warner Bros. Studio Tour London - The Making of Harry Potter wanted to preserve and showcase these iconic props, costumes and sets so that Harry Potter fans could experience the magic of filmmaking first-hand. Many of the original cast and crew returned to reassemble the sets and record their memories from filming, and on 31st March 2012, the Studio Tour opened its doors.
Set adjacent to the working film studios where all eight Harry Potter films were made, the Studio Tour offers visitors the unique opportunity to explore two soundstages and a backlot filled with original sets, animatronic creatures and breathtaking special effects.

Offer.... Book online by Monday 26 October for just £79pp
(Full Price £89)     £5 extra for telephone bookings

What's it all about?

All aboard! After spectacular sold-out runs at London's Waterloo Station, York National Railway Museum and the CN Tower in Toronto, the stunning adaptation of E Nesbit’s classic novel The Railway Children pulls into London's King's Cross Station this December.

Set in a new, purpose built 1,000 seat venue, this breathtaking show features a stage built around a real train track, and a beautiful 60-tonne locomotive that steams into the theatre to delight all ages.

A timelessly tender and affecting story coupled with truly unique staging, The Railway Children won the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment following its seasons at Waterloo and is blissful stuff, no matter your age.

Don't miss this chance to make your connection with Bobbie, Peter and Phyllis as they tell the story of how they became The Railway Children and recount the adventure of a lifetime.

What's the story?

The Railway Children tells the story of Bobbie, Peter and Phyllis, three children whose lives change dramatically when their father is mysteriously taken away.

They move from London to a cottage in rural Yorkshire with their mother, where they befriend Perks the local railway porter and embark on a journey of discovery, friendship and adventure. But the mystery remains - where is Father, and is he ever coming back?
