Thursday 10 December 2015
OFFER... Book online by Monday 2 November for JUST £269pp (Full Price £329)
Christmas at the Keukenhof was among The Telegraph’s top 5 Christmas markets in Europe for 2011.
More a fair than a market, Christmas at the Keukenhof has the usual stands, stalls, and chalets with things to buy, eat, and drink, but also includes an ice rink, children’s petting zoo, circus, storyteller, and a Winter Wonderland.
Children will delight in seeing beloved characters like the Ice Queen and Santa Claus. The Keukenhof Castle will be open to visitors and the gardens will be decorated with lights. There will also be a floral show at the Keukenhof gardens, featuring tulips, hyacinths, and other blooming spring flowers.
Every year, a traditional Christmas market is held at Keukenhof Castle during the Sint-Niklaas weekend, with chalets in abundance selling everything from unique Christmas gifts to mulled wine and gingerbreads. There is also a winter wonderland, the gardens as well as the castle to visit. In addition, we have combined this tour with the Amsterdam Light Festival, promising customers an excellent and unique Christmas themed break.
Day 1
Depart your local area (Thurs)
Depart your preferred departure point late afternoon and make our way to Hull to board the P and O overnight ferry to Rotterdam. We have included an inside 2 berth cabin with private facilities.
Day 2
Keukenhof Christmas Market (Fri)
We arrive in Rotterdam and today we make our way to Lisse and specifically to Keukenhof Castle where one of the largest Christmas market events is taking place. Ranked by the Telegraph as one of the Top 5 Christmas Markets, it is not difficult to see why as you browse around the many chalets filled with unique gifts and the smell of mulled wine and other food delicacies waft through the air. As well as the market, there is also an ice rink, circus, winter wonderland, castle and gardens to explore.
We arrive at our hotel, the excellent Princess Hotel at Loosdrecht in time for dinner
Day 3
Amsterdam (Sat)
After breakfast we have a full day to enjoy the vibrant city of Amsterdam. Why not begin with a cruise on the famous canals where you will be shown many of the city's points of interest? Take a refreshment stop at one of the many cafés and bars and then explore the many museums and attractions such as Anne Frank’s house, the Riks Museum and the Gassan Diamond Factory. In the evening, Amsterdam comes to life as the Light Festival transforms the Amstel River into a ‘Boulevard of Light’. Created by leading artists, light ‘sculptures’ illuminate building and bridges to create a breathtaking show.
We return to the hotel early afternoon with time to relax and freshen up before dinner
Day 4 (Sun) Delft
After breakfast we head for Delft, Vermeer’s birthplace and a true gem, Delft sits between The Hague and Rotterdam in the country’s southwest. The city’s name comes from the Dutch word for digging, fitting since canals are a highlight here. Others include the 13th-century Old Church, the 15th-century New Church and the Prinsenhof, once home to William of Orange and now a museum. Delft has long been a center for fine ceramics, and traditional hand painting methods can still be witnessed at Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles.
We return to Rotterdam late afternoon for our overnight crossing to Hull
Day 5 (Mon)
We arrive back in South Yorkshire at approx. 10h00
